My expertise as Sports Lawyer
My name is Vassil Dimitrov and I am a Sports Lawyer with experience in providing legal consultation in various sports – football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey and handball. I have successfully represented football players and clubs before the FIFA arbitration and judicial bodies and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
I also act as counsel for football intermediaries before CAS and as legal representative for players, agents and clubs in cases before the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT), CEV and the FIVB Tribunal, the EHF Court of Arbitration and the UCI Arbitral Board.
My experience in representing athletes and federations in cases related to doping before CAS comes from successfully defending the legal rights of the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation in a doping-related disciplinary proceedings initiated by the International Weightlifting Federation.
I have a Master’s degree in law from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Bulgaria. Afterwards I have successfully completed a Sports Law postgraduate course at the University of Hagen, Germany. Moreover I have excellent knowledge in English and German evidenced by specific International language certificates.
I have published many articles in both Bulgarian and International legal magazines covering wide range of sports law topics, such as the third-party ownership of players’ economic right, the discrimination against Paralympic athletes and the fight against match-fixing. Most recently I have contributed to the magazine “Global Sports Law and Taxation Reports” edited by Prof. Dr. Ian Blackshaw. The title of the article is “Legal consequences of anti-doping rule violations for teams and national federations”.
