Legal consultation in Sports Law cases

My expertise as Sports Lawyer

My name is Vassil Dimitrov and I am a Sports Lawyer with experience in providing legal consultation in football, basketball, volleyball, cycling and athletics. I am successfully representing football players, agents and clubs before the FIFA arbitration bodies and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

My expertise includes working as counsel for football intermediaries before CAS. I act as legal representative for players, agents, coaches and clubs before the FIBA Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT), CEV and the FIVB Tribunal. Additionally, I provide legal consultation for cases before the UCI Arbitral Board and the Athletics Integrity Unit of World Athletics.

My experience in doping cases before CAS comes from successfully defending the legal rights of the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation. The dispute involved doping-related disciplinary proceedings initiated by the International Weightlifting Federation.

I have a Master’s degree in law from the Sofia University in Bulgaria. Afterwards I have successfully completed a Sports Law postgraduate course at the University of Hagen, Germany. Moreover, I have excellent knowledge of English and German evidenced by specific international language certificates.

I have published many articles in Bulgarian and international legal magazines covering a wide range of sports law topics. The articles discuss the third-party ownership of players’ economic rights, the discrimination against Paralympic athletes and the fight against match-fixing.

On several occasions I have contributed to the magazine “Global Sports Law and Taxation Reports” edited by Prof. Dr. Ian Blackshaw. One of these publications is an article about the legal consequences of anti-doping rule violations for teams and national federations.

Most recently, I have written about the image rights agreements and guaranteed employment contracts in basketball. The article was published in the journal “Sports Law & Taxation”.

The “Sports Law services” section of the website contains additional information about the services I offer.
