My expertise as Sports Lawyer

My name is Vassil Dimitrov and I am a Sports Lawyer with experience in providing legal consultation in various sports – football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey and handball. I have successfully represented football players and clubs before the FIFA arbitration and judicial bodies and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

I also act as counsel for football intermediaries before CAS and as legal representative for players, agents and clubs in cases before the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT), CEV and the FIVB Tribunal, the EHF Court of Arbitration and in ice hockey disputes before CAS.

My experience in representing athletes and federations in cases related to doping before CAS comes from successfully defending the legal rights of the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation in a doping-related disciplinary proceedings initiated by the International Weightlifting Federation.

I have a Master’s degree in law from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Bulgaria. Afterwards I have successfully completed a Sports Law postgraduate course at the University of Hagen, Germany. Moreover I have excellent knowledge in English and German evidenced by specific International language certificates.

I have published many articles in both Bulgarian and International legal magazines covering wide range of Sports Law topics. Most recently I have contributed to the magazine “Global Sports Law and Taxation Reports” edited by Prof. Dr. Ian Blackshaw. My articles published in Prof. Blackshaw’s magazine discuss the ban on Third-party ownership of football players’ economic rights and also the case of discrimination against the Paralympic athletes in Bulgaria. My latest Sports Law article is about the fight against match-fixing in Bulgarian football and the crimes against sport.
